Team Heroes includes more than a dozen cancer survivors and people who have cared for or are currently caring for loved ones with cancer. These everyday heroes also make up one of the most respected cycling teams in Indiana. As advocates for the Heroes Foundation, they proudly wear their support for our organization everywhere they go to participate in all disciplines of cycling events.

Riding for a
bigger purpose
Indianapolis cyclists Don Birch and Dave Ripley were inspired by cancer survivor and Heroes Foundation Co-Founder Vince Todd, Jr., to reposition their own cycling team, the Geist Riders, to become Team Heroes. From that moment on, they’ve been riding for a bigger purpose.

The Heroes Foundation Patient Assistance fund, In Memory of David Evers
In memory of David Evers, a proud member of Team Heroes, the Heroes Foundation Direct Patient Assistance Fund was established by his wife, Holly Evers. The fund provides one-time assistance to individuals facing cancer and profound financial hardship, helping cover essential living expenses such as rent or mortgage payments, utilities and transportation to and from treatment.
In each case, recipients have reached a point where the costs of care, combined with a significant loss of income, have made it impossible to keep up with even the most basic obligations. Many of these people are no longer able to work full time, and some can only manage a few hours a week, often resulting in the loss of employer-sponsored health insurance at the very moment they need it most.
Each gift is a quiet but powerful act of compassion, easing the weight of impossible circumstances and allowing patients and their families to focus on what matters most — time, comfort and being together. Through this work, David’s legacy lives on, bringing dignity, relief and hope to those who need it most.

Justin Davis: Beyond the bike
Team Heroes member Justin Davis expanded his impact on the Indiana cancer community by becoming a Heroes Foundation board member. Even more, he and his wife, Mollyanne, sparked a community-wide movement. As the owners of two LeafSpring School locations, serving over 300 families of preschoolers, they used the Heroes Foundation’s Team JOEY Program as a way to share with families about helping pediatric cancer patients in our local hospitals. A related podcast appearance led the PTO President from Geist Elementary School to get its 650 students involved. As a result of their efforts, close to $2,000 was raised, and 400 LEGO sets were donated.
CANCER PREVENTION AMBASSADORS
Regular exercise lowers the risk of developing at least 13 types of cancer. Team Heroes makes living an active lifestyle not only smart, but also social and personally fulfilling. In addition to competing in events sanctioned by USA Cycling and USA Triathlon, the team hosts fundraisers for the Heroes Foundation and supports major cycling events.
