When someone is diagnosed with cancer, their world is turned upside down. Being able to find and take advantage of support services fast is absolutely critical. Where families are overburdened, the Heroes Foundation shows up to relieve some of the stress put on those affected by cancer.
Oncology Patient Assistance Fund
Fulfilling cancer patients’ basic needs
A cancer diagnosis impacts every aspect of a person’s life, from food security to housing. The Oncology Patient Assistance Fund at Community Health Network provides patients with gift cards so that access to food, gas, and life-saving medicine isn’t a major hurdle. The program recently added transportation services, short-term housing for long-term treatments, and utilities and housing assistance. In 2025, this program helped more than 2,000 unique patients.

COMPLETELIFE PROGRAM
Providing adult therapy services and support groups
Holistic care is about more than fighting a disease. That’s why the CompleteLife Program at IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center is a comprehensive therapy program that attends to the body, mind and spirit of the whole person. All CompleteLife services, including the annual Art Show, are available to patients and families of IUSCCC and IU Health University Hospital. In addition, all First Mondays Cancer Support Groups are open to any adult, regardless of where they receive treatment.
THE HEROES FOUNDATION TEAM JOEY PROGRAM
Bringing joy to children fighting cancer
Team JOEY lifts the spirits of pediatric cancer patients through the magic of LEGO! In 2025, our volunteers handed out 500+ LEGO sets and threw parties for children in treatment at area hospitals. Our hospital partners include Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital (Indianapolis), Riley Children’s Health (Indianapolis) and Lutheran Children’s Hospital (Fort Wayne).
IUSCCC MOVE PROGRAM
Improving patient outcomes through exercise
Exercise not only improves a cancer patient’s quality of life and self-image. It can also reduce the negative side effects of treatment and increase survival rates in some cancers. The IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center MOVE program provides free-of-charge, individualized cancer exercise sessions to patients regardless of where they typically are treated and at any point in their cancer experience. The Heroes Foundation helps pay for equipment and trainers to deliver this priceless support.

Supporting children’s cancer treatment experience
The Heroes Foundation Team JOEY Cityscape Room inside Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital opened to young cancer patients in 2023. In 2022, The Heroes Foundation completed a $50,000 gift to the hospital to fund renovations of the inpatient pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) room. The room is named after Joey Keller, who lost his battle wth cancer at age 9 and is the inspiration for Team JOEY.
SUMMIT PARTNERS’ SUPPORT IS BOUNDLESS
In addition to providing financial gifts, Summit Partners put leaders on our Board of Directors and support the Heroes Foundation Team JOEY Program by collecting LEGO sets. They even dress up to entertain kids during Team JOEY parties at local hospitals.
